Dear friends,
Happy 2019 to all! I have long since given up on making New Year’s resolutions, as I always seem to honor them more in the breach than in the observance. Instead, I have begun this year meditating every day on Jesus’ portrayal of the kind of person I’d like to be, in the Sermon on the Mount. As we think about where we and our world are headed this year, let’s imagine—what would the world be like if you and I were actually like this?
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. (Matthew 5:3-9)
yours, Steve
